Course Descriptions

Lindy Hop Essential classes – ELEF (10,5h)

Learn the foundations of Lindy Hop, focusing on rhythm, connection, and basic figures through the ELEF approach (dancing in both lead and follow roles).

This level is great for absolute beginners to Swing dance (and any dance).

You are also welcome to enrol in this course if you know a bit or quite some of Lindy Hop, and

  • find it challenging to make your dance more musical rather than technical,
  • want to learn a different role or find changing roles difficult.

This special Lindy Hop Essentials class will be held on Tuesdays from 19:00 to 20:30 and will run from 3rd June 2025 to 15th July 2025, consisting of 7 lessons of 1 hour and 30 minutes each. Taking this class will enable you to skip ahead and join the next level in September.

This series will be taught by our local teachers Anna and Anton.

Charleston classes – fixed roles

Charleston is a lively and essential part of Lindy Hop and Jazz dancing, and this summer, we’re inviting you to explore the joy of Charleston couple dancing! Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills, we’ve designed two distinct series to cater to different levels.

Each series spans two evenings (4 hours total), offering flexibility to suit your schedule. You can join one series or both!

Charleston Starter Series (4h)

Perfect for those new to Charleston or with limited Swing dance experience, this series takes you step by step through the fundamentals. We recommend at least one semester of Lindy Hop before joining. No prior knowledge of Charleston is required, and we’ll start from scratch to ensure everyone feels comfortable.

What’s included:

  • 6-Count: Discover a new rhythm pattern that opens up exciting moves such as tuck turns and pass-bys.
  • 8-Count: Learn the iconic Charleston kicks and basic couple moves, including simple figures like basic Charleston and skip-ups.
  • Hand-to-Hand: Once you’ve mastered the basics, we’ll introduce dynamic figures to elevate your dancing.

Charleston Improver Series (4h)

This series is tailored for dancers who have completed the beginner level or already have experience with Charleston. You should be confident with 6- and 8-count Charleston as well as hand-to-hand variations at moderate tempos.

What’s included:

  • Airplane: Explore creative entrances and exits while refining this playful move.
  • Tandem: Dive into tandem sequences, mastering transitions in and out of this unique style.
  • Bonus content: let’s explore some exciting variations of the Charleston basics!

Why Join?

These classes offer more than just dance instruction—they’re a chance to connect with others, improve your musicality, and immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Charleston. Whether you’re starting out or polishing your skills, this summer promises fun, energy, and growth on the dance floor!

Our lovely local teachers Maria and Philip will run the Charleston classes.

Newton’s laws of Lindy Hop – ELEF (6h)

This special topic class is open to all Lindy Hop dancers who have solid basics. Note that this is not a beginner class! In this class we’ll apply the ELEF approach, where everyone leads and everyone follows. That means that all dancers expolre both roles.

Session 1: The Law of Momentum & Balance

“A dancer at rest stays at rest, and a dancer in motion stays in motion—unless acted upon by a partner’s guidance, gravity, or a rogue jazz hand.”

In this part, we’ll dive into the art of creating and controlling momentum. Explore how different footwork patterns, such as rock steps versus two back steps, led and followed. Learn to stop moving when we don’t have momentum and restart leading to different footwork patterns like rock step or step step forward. Breaking free from traditional 6 and 8 count patterns. Practice send outs in both directions, sugar pushes with random redirects to challenge your timing and connection.

Session 2: The Law of Force & Connection

“The force applied by the leader equals the follower’s mass times their acceleration… but don’t overdo it—nobody likes a rough swing!”

This part focuses on the power of connection and acceleration. Learn how the stretch in a lindy can be used to accelerate your partner, and explore different moves that vary in acceleration. We’ll work on a few variations where we can use the step step or triple step, depending on the leading. Example of the move: the 6-count swing out. Discover the perfect balance between guiding and respecting your partner’s space.

Session 3: The Law of Connection & Counterbalance

“Every action has an equal and opposite reaction… but in Lindy Hop, it’s more like a harmonious dance of give-and-take.”

In this part, we’ll explore the art of counterbalance and energy matching. Learn to adjust your weight and connection to harmonize with your partner, experimenting with different tempos to understand how timing affects movement. Discover how slower tempos allow for a heavier, more delayed connection, while faster tempos require quick responses.

Our lovely local teachers Ingrida and Alexey will run these special topic classes.
