Class details:
15th January – 19:00 to 21:00 in Altrimenti:
Rhythm work & Tap (couple)
Skills: deconstructing and constructing rhythms, accuracy, technique, creativity.
central aspects: sharpening the rhythms we have and being free within our basic rhythms.
How to get from “I recreate a variation that has been taught to me” to creating our own rhythms. In this area we will work on playing with basic elements of rhythm, such as steps and triplesteps, to rearrange them and move freely with them. In that sense, we will create cool rhythm with simple elements. We will explore techniques to keep the flow while moving in different rhythms, as well as ideas on how to achieve the freedom and creativity to create our own rhythms.
22nd January 19:00 – 21:00 in Altrimenti:
Let’s get technical (couple)
Skills: advanced leading and following techniques.
central aspects: deconstructing advanced moves in terms of direction, connection and rhythm.
In this area we will focus on specific concepts, such as traveling and turns/reversing directions mid-move/ side step entries etc. With identifying the key moments in those moves and their specific challenges, we will work on creating clearer communication between leaders and followers and a higher level of attention to the dialogue in the dance.
29th January 19:00 – 21:00 in Altrimenti:
Solo improvisation (solo)
Skills: musical interpretation, jazz vocabulary use, spontaneity and flow.
central aspects: Merging the gap between artificial/ mechanical sequencing of jazz steps and a way of movement that is intuitive and connected to ourselves as well as to the music.
This area will explore some insights on how to broaden our ability to speak in Jazz vocabulary, in connection to the music. We will explore jazz as a language, and the challenge of being stuck in repetitive patterns and how to overcome it. The wish is to
find a way to move in the music in freedom and authenticity, while still using the characteristic language of jazz.
5th February 19 :00 – 21 :00 in Altrimenti:
Classic routines & choreography work (couple)
skills: extracting routines from old clips, schemes and methods (also) for creating a show.
central aspects: historical context, familiarising with swing culture heritage. Creating joint projects in the community to raise motivation.
In this area, we will practice the extraction of choreographies from old clips. We will talk about learning by watching and techniques for structuring choreographies from materials that are visually challenging. Afterwards we will dive into the practical aspects of creating a show – choosing and transcribing music, imagining formation and different elements and tactics for learning/teaching.
