Registering individually?
We welcome individual registrations! True, Lindy Hop is a couple dance, but we rotate partners (see FAQ below), so it’ll work out fine as long as there are roughly as many leaders as followers.
Waiting lists for individual registrations: in case we have many more followers registering than leaders, we may put individual follower registrations on a waiting list. The equivalent applies when many more leaders than followers register individually.
Registration FAQ
show all
- ▸What’s the course language?
Courses are taught in English.
- ▸At what level should I register?
If you’ve never danced Lindy Hop before, Lindy 1 is most likely the right level for you.
If you have completed the beginners level or have done the Lindy 2 level once join the Lindy 2 level. This is also the level that you can take if you have followed one or two courses (10-20 lessons) of Lindy Hop elsewhere. You can join the Authentic Jazz course if you have some Lindy Hop experience, for instance if you have previously taken the Lindy 1 course.
- ▸Do I need a partner?
No, we change partners during class anyway. However, if you know someone to dance with, convince them to sign up! After all, Lindy hop is a partner dance.
Because the Authentic Jazz course is a solo dance class, you can’t register with a dance partner for that course.
Note: we intend to keep the ratio leaders/followers somewhat balanced. If there are many more leaders registering than followers, we will start a waiting list for individual leaders. Conversely, with many more followers than leaders registering, we will start a waiting list for individual followers.
Couple registrations are never put on a waiting list.
- ▸What is a “leader” / “follower”?
Couple dancing involves two persons. They have different roles during the dance: one of them takes the lead (literally), while the other one follows. In traditional dances such as ballroom dances, the man leads and the woman follows. In Lindy Hop, we focus on the role of the dancer, not his/her gender.
- ▸What clothes should I wear?
Preferably something light, such as a t-shirt. Dancing can be quite intensive, and you may find it gets rather quickly warm.
Tip: bring a clean shirt for when you need a change.
- ▸What kind of shoes should I wear?
Bring comfortable non-marking indoor shoes. This means: shoes with soles that do not leave marks when dragged over wooden floors, and shoes that are never worn outside. The slicker the soles, the better. Pumps or stiletto heels are out: no need for heels and it may damage the floor. For beginners: a pair of dress shoes with clean soles will probably suffice.
- ▸I heard you rotate dance partners during class?
Like virtually all other Lindy Hop clubs, we rotate dance partners frequently during classes. This helps both leader and follower become better faster, as they both are exposed to different dancers with varying strengths and weaknesses.
- ▸I only want to dance with my partner!
That’s fine with us. We won’t force you to dance with others – but we strongly encourage it. We know you’ll make progress a lot faster if you do dance with others.
- ▸What if I can’t make it to all classes?
The first part of each class is a brief recap of the previous class. If you pay attention then, and practice a bit at home, normally you’ll do fine.
Please note that we will not reimburse you for any not-attended classes.
